walking the sacred spiral
walking the sacred spiral
Imagine with me that before we were born we each packed for ourselves a Life-Survival Kit. Each person would choose, say, six things, to put into a kit to take into this life adventure with them. What six things do you imagine you chose to serve you best on your life’s journey?
To answer this question, think about which of your abilities have helped you most in life, and also, which ones have been revealed as the result of a crisis. In other words, you discovered you had these capacities when you really needed them, but not before that.
Here are the six qualities I would pack in my Kit today:
•Courage–which pushes me to take risks even when I feel afraid
•Humor–which both entertains me and helps me to lighten up and also to not take things so personally or seriously
•Reflexivity–which allows me to examine my actions and my point of view and consider where I need to grow
•Creativity–which lets me participate in the discovery of things I didn’t previously know, or know I could do
•Faith–which allows me to let go and know there is a Mystery–whose nature is Order and Love–and who knows more, and better than I do, how to respond to any problem
•Love–which connects me deeply and deliciously to others, to myself, to the universe and to the Mystery
You can see that I’m not talking about skills or talents, but capacities, qualities or attitudes we take out of the Kit and apply as needed.
Over the next six weeks I’m going to do a mini-exploration of each of these six so you can consider with me whether some of them are in your Life Survival Kit as well. And if at any time you want to claim one of mine to add to the kit you already have, feel free!
